New Conditioning Polymer from BASF

A range of products on display at Booth No. 145.

BASF Corporation will present a new conditioning polymer at the NYSCC Suppliers’ Day. BASF’s extensive expertise in cosmetics and personal care will be on display at Booth No. 145.

Luviquat Sensation is billed as an innovative polymer for shampoo and hair care products with excellent conditioning properties. According to BASF, freshly washed hair should be easy to comb, but still have plenty of volume and a soft, natural feel after drying. Until now, combinations of various polymers and silicones were necessary to achieve those effects. The Luviquat Sensation polymer, an innovative conditioning polymer developed by BASF, now meets all those requirements in one ingredient.

The polymer also has excellent “easy” handling features. While many polymers are provided in powdered form and must be dissolved prior to formulating the product, the Luviquat Sensation polymer is a water-based solution that can be mixed directly into the shampoo formulation. It saves both time and money, according to BASF.

“Consumers expect today’s hair products to counteract the detrimental effects of hair coloring habits and environmental factors. The high charge density in the Luviquat Sensation polymer ensures that damaged hair receives the exact amount of conditioner it needs to repair and revitalize itself,” said Gary Dee, business director, personal care ingredients at BASF.  “Hair feels soft and natural, without heavy buildup, while frizz is significantly reduced.”

Also on display at Suppliers’ Day are BASF T-Lite and Z-cote inorganic particulate UV filters, which provide both UVA and UVB protection. According to BASF, consumers want to stay healthy, youthful and wrinkle-free for as long as possible. One of the main prerequisites is effective protection from harmful UV radiation. Whatever the formulation—crème, lotion, spray or oil—it must contain both UVA and UVB filters. At the BASF booth, visitors can also learn more about the company’s MAX technology, which it calls is a formulation breakthrough that allows for carbomer compatibility with coated titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.

For cosmetic chemists concerned about color, BASF will showcase Reflecks MultiDimensions color changing effect pigments for color cosmetics and personal care products. For use in eyeshadows, nail polishes, lipsticks, body gels and shampoos, Reflecks MultiDimensions pigments first appear one color, and then shift to another and another, depending on the angle of vision. According to BASF, Reflecks MultiDimensions effect pigments are perfect for creative cosmetic applications in line with the latest trends. Also in the color arena, Flamenco Winter Sparkle Effect pigment creates the sparkling white look of crystalline snowflakes on the skin or in suspension. It is especially dramatic in gels, clear sticks, nail enamels and even opaque products.
